Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ or Messiah - meaning God’s special chosen one. He is the Son of God, the living Word and Immanuel - meaning God is with us. He is unique in His conception and birth through God’s Spirit, mysteriously fully human but at the same time fully God. He is at the centre of God’s rescue plan.

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life of obedience to the Father. He offered Himself through death on a cross as the necessary sacrifice to save our a broken world. In doing this He literally died instead of us, taking the punishment and consequences of our sin upon Himself and fulfilling God’s just law on behalf of all God’s people (past, present and future). After three days He rose from the grave, conquering sin and death. In doing this He revealed the new humanity promised for all who accept God’s offer of rescue/salvation. He then ascended to Heaven, established as the head of God’s people (the Church) and given supreme authority over all of creation (heaven and earth). He will return again to earth to judge the living and the dead.
